Just about everything you read online about credit repair is information that has been placed there, either directly or indirectly, by big companies that want to repair your credit for you. They may publish useful information, but they have a vested interest in completely over-complicating the topic. The purpose of the information they have spread all over the Internet (and you’ve probably already read a great deal of it without even realizing it) is to direct traffic right through their doors. They want the average American consumer to throw up their hands and utterly despair of ever getting their credit fixed in any simple or inexpensive manner.
But don’t be fooled by the flood of information you’ve found online. Self credit repair, though not exactly a simple process, is completely doable. I have seen plenty of people have great success by simply creating credit repair letters corresponding to the items they wanted to dispute on their credit reports.
Those credit dispute letters don’t have to be perfect, and they don’t have to be original. Read more…

Contemplating buying a bigger home or funding a refurbishment of an existing one? This week’s lesson from the Gilded Age looks to George Vanderbilt and the unsustainable housing practices of his era for inspiration on what not to do.
If you possess ranked-by-Fortune-magazine money, you want a comfortable home… or two. And you should. But, if you have to spend $70,000 in 1889 dollars or $1.4 million today to build a railroad spur to transport construction supplies to the site, you should probably think twice, no matter how much you’re worth. Wouldn’t you agree, Mr. Vanderbilt?

Nevertheless, George was the man who built Biltmore in Ashville, North Carolina, a strange and sad tale of uber opulence that is beautifully detailed in Greg King’s book, A Season of Splendor. Construction lasted six years, and at its peak cost $900,000 a day. Total cost for the 175,000-square-foot, 255-room mansion with an 800-foot-long façade on 125,000 acres was $6 million then, $120 million now. More than 100

This generation has turned into a microwave society. People want things done quickly, and repairing your credit is no exception. People get hyped up by guaranteed claims of repairing credit fast and easy. The truth is that is not the case. There are places called credit repair clinics that claim to be able to remove all negative information from your credit report. They also claim that your can credit can be wiped clean. Of course, there is a catch. You will have to pay a fee and it’s usually in the hundreds of dollars for their “services”.
Credit repair clinics are nothing more than a sham. You shouldn’t fall for them because they have no legal right to delete, repair or adjust your credit report. The only entity that can legally adjust or delete information is the credit bureau. Negative items, depending on what they are, can stay on your report for either seven (general negative information) or ten years (bankruptcy, i.e. Chapter 7). These so-called clinics have no legal right to remove these items from your credit report. If they tell you otherwise, they’re lying in order to get your money. In fact,

Some folks in Missouri were recently indicted for perpetrating credit history fraud and buying property illegally, to the tune of about three million dollars. Credit history fraud is a new crime that is reported growing in popularity. But what is it?
These crooks accomplished their fraud by manipulating the credit reporting system. One alleged criminal, a real estate agent, obtained false Social Security numbers. Then his accomplices set up phony companies and reported positive credit information to the credit bureaus. The information was then added to the credit reports of the phony people, enhancing their scores and allowing them to be approved for mortgages that they otherwise wouldn’t have qualified for. Understand that these people have not yet gone to trial and so may not be found guilty.
Is There a Way to Enhance Your Credit Legally?
Sure there is. After all, the only reason this alleged fraud was illegal was that there were false Social Security numbers involved, and that the positive credit history reported was false. But people can legally get the same result using their own real Social Security numbers.
You can add a positive credit history by using your existing credit for small purchases and paying on time every month. Se
